Brownie Points

My starry eyes chart is one way I keep track of behavior, but I also think using incentives for positive behavior is a wonderful way to motivate students to do the right thing. The system I use to reward the entire class for positive behavior is called Brownie Points! I attached magnet strips to the back of a small metal pan so it hangs on our white board. The students earn brownies by getting compliments for great behavior from other teachers, working together as a class on assignments, hard work from all students during literacy or math stations, or just any other thing they do as a class that shows great first grade behavior! When the pan is full of brownies, the kids get a party to celebrate their hard work!

I found the brownies at

I am a student teacher and planning on making this for my first class. Love the idea of using it for a mystery prize per what the teacher wants blog suggestion. I think i will glue a prize envelope to the back of my pan and when its fun... take it down and see what we won!

Love your idea. I use stars to hang from the ceiling to be my "shining stars", but the brownie points is a terrific idea. It's always nice to have alternative ways to reward great behavior.

We do brownie points with real brownie mix. One jar has the mix and one jar is for the earned value. We add one or two scoops to the earned jar at the end of the day and when all the mix haas been transferred to the earned jar, I bake brownies for the class. (I don't actally bake the mix from the classroom.)
