The Paper Mountain...

If you're a teacher, you most likely have stacks of papers everywhere. Your desk is a mountain of copies, things to be copied, plans, notes from home, turned in work, and work to be graded. My wonderful mentor teacher last year showed me her solution to organizing her week: labeled storage drawers. They are perfect for organizing the paper mountain! Each drawer is labeled with a day of the week, and in each drawer I keep copies for the day and/or things I need to copy that day, picture books I will use, notes to go home, and other random things that I will need to give out or complete. I just open up the drawer, and everything I need is right there!

This is genius! I used file folders for the same purpose, but the folders weren't big enough to hold things like books. I'm definitely copying this idea whenever I go back to teaching. Thanks!

Erin, I used file folders too--but not everything would fit in them! I think you'll love using the drawers!

Hey there! I just found your blog this morning. I am a first grade teacher, too, going on my 13th year (ouch!). I love it. I use file folders for my planning, but I may switch to this idea. I have 2 weeks planned out most of the time, so I will have to see how to make this work! Great idea!

I should definitely use this idea! I hate the stacks of paper I always seem to build!

Love this - I use hanging file folders, but I think I'm ready for something new. Off to buy these today! And it's great that there is a 6th drawer....one for storing the following week's materials as you get them ready!

Love this idea - do you have your days of the week "stickers" to share somewhere? So cute!!!!!

I wish I'd had this when I was teaching high school AND 3rd grade! For HS, I just had piles & file folders -- which worked since my students wouldn't mess with them, but for 3rd grade, with all of the subjects and everything... Oh it was a mess! This certainly would have helped!

I love using these for colored paper I use in my printer. It is easy to sort by color (I put 2-3 colors in 1 drawer), I can easily see when I am low, it doesn't fade on the edges as much, AND it stacks perfectly right next to the printer for easy access. I love the idea to organize other papers that way. Thanks!

I've used these storage drawers for years. Last year I switched from the 8.5 x 11 size to the 12 x 12 size. The larger drawers accommodate construction paper easier.

Also, I have a label on that last drawer that says "Next Week" so as I start working on pulling materials/papers together for the following week, I just put it all in that last drawer. It makes organizing on Friday for the following week much easier and faster.

I also use the 12 x 12 size drawers. In kindergarten we often use construction paper, books, puppets, etc and I can fit more into the bigger drawers. Most of you use the last drawer for the following week, but I skip that step. As soon as I find something I will need for the following week I put it into the correct day of the week drawer. I often have two to three weeks of materials in each day's drawer, but it works out great.

I saw this on pinterest.com (someone posted it). Originally, I thought it was for organizing kids clothes! I know that's not what you meant it for, but you created a spark for me. I am going to do this at home with my kindergartener. On Sunday, we will pick out the entire week's clothes. THis way, he can wake up, get dressed and go! It will save a lot of time in the rushed mornings. Thank you so much!

Are these scrapbook stacking drawers? Where did you buy them?

I use the same drawers for my centers. It keeps everything organized and in one central location. I teach my students how to go get their drawer (which has a picture of their center on the front that matches my center rotation board), and they take it to a special area or their desk to complete their center work. :)
