This St. Patrick's Day, my class will be up to some shenanigans...
We will be shaking on some "Leprechaun Learning Dust"...
and even making 4 leaf clovers to show how lucky we all already are {even without that leprechaun's gold}!
Along with that, we will be designing our very own Leprechaun Traps--my favorite activity of St. Patrick's Day! I will always remember making my own Leprechaun Trap when I was in first grade. I didn't catch the sneaky guy, but it sure was magical when he left behind some green glitter and chocolate gold coins!
What's that you say? You would like to be up to some shenanigans, too? Click HERE to get a packet full o' shenanigans!
P.S. I am always looking for new inspiration! What is your favorite St. Patrick's Day activity or lesson? Please leave me a comment!
The LUCKY 17th person to comment will get Shamrock Shenanigans FREE! Woo HOO!
This is absolutely precious!!!! :) So cute!

How fun! Love all your ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of the same activities as you! Throughout the week things begin happening in our classroom (chairs and desks moved, clovers left behind), I read The Night Before St. Patrick's Day, and we set a trap. We write what we're lucky to have, make Wanted posters for those darn leprechauns, and the kiddos write how they think shamrock shakes are made. On St. Patty's day they find a note left behind with gold coins and chocolate. We make shamrock shakes that day too!

I love the 4-leaf clover idea! I think it is brilliant and my kiddos and I might be doing that next week! Thank you so much for the ideas. My favorite St. Patrick's day activity is to have the students design leprechaun traps the day before St. Patrick's day, then the morning of the leprechaun (ie me!) trashes the room and leaves the kiddos some "gold" coins. So fun!
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower and would love to share my ideas with you as well! My bestie and I are also hosting our first giveaway for our march literacy centers pack - you should come check it out!

First Grade ABCs
Mine is our science unit on inventors that I did with my K's last year. The week before St. Pat's, we learned all about inventors and how they come up with inventions and then we invented leprechaun traps! They spent all afternoon creating and then we *almost* caught the naughty little leprechaun who tried to steal our gold. :)
ReplyDeleteYour unit looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOn St. Patrick's Day, I like to add green food coloring to the toilet water. The kid's reactions are priceless.
One year, as the kids were cleaning up the mess the leprechaun had left, one little girl comes running up to me and yells, "The leprechaun is girl! She left her hair ties on the floor!!"
Apparently, one of my kids (from that year or year's past??) had left their hair ties on the floor and no one had noticed or bothered to pick them up. All of my kids were convinced the leprechaun was a girl. I tried very hard not to laugh. It was really cute.

Hi there,
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I come in early and throw chairs and books all over the room to really mess it up. Then I leave little green 'footprints' all over the desks, bookcases with my palm of my hand on the side dipped in paint and a few finger prints next to it. So they see the tracks left behind. We do lots of other fun things too, I will be posting them. :o)

So Cute ideas from all. One thing we like to do is make magic putting with the leprachaun dust(pistatio pudding) All you do is add milk and stir and you turn ordinary white "dust" into a bright green pudding!
ReplyDeleteI am counting down the days to celebrate my favorite holiday with my class. About two weeks before the great green day the boys and girls start looking for misplaced things around the room to blame on the little leprechaun...thank you for the great ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI love your cute ideas...I can't wait to use some of these cute ideas:)
ReplyDeleteCan you explain how they will select pictures for their Lucky Shamrocks? (presorted, choosse at home, ect.) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy third graders loved making the lucky shamrocks last year. Thanks for sharing!

Mrs. Miller’s Monkey Business
When I student taught, I bought a pair of cheap white kid shoes and spray painted them green and sprinkled with gold glitter. Ever since, I've continued the tradition of hiding the shoes in my room, leaving a note for my Kinders from a leprechaun informing them that the shoes are somewhere in the room, and leaving evidence that there was a leprechaun in the room the night before (shamrocks all over, "irish" names on their desks, flipped over furniture, etc.). At the end of the day, the shoes disappear and gold coins are placed on their desks along with a note from our leprechaun thanking us for finding his shoes. The kids LOVE knowing that a leprechaun friend has stopped by. The leprechaun always "leaves" activities for the students to do all day long on this special day.
ReplyDeletelove the St Patty's resource:) I also love the "Bee Rules". I teach kindergarten and call my class the "Kinder Hive". love love your goodies!
