Contraction Cupcakes

For as long as I have been teaching, I've wanted to send home take home activity bags, and this is the first year I have tried it! I want the activities in each bag to be a meaningful and fun way to practice and review skills we are learning in first grade! One of the first activities I put in a take home bag this year was the Contraction Cupcake puzzle. The kids had to match the two words found on the icing to the correct contraction found on the bottom part of the cupcake!

Very nice. This would help my ELL students a lot. Is your cupcake contraction made with clipart and printed up or a store bought cut out with the contractions glued on?

Hey everyone! I would have loved to make this a download, but it isn't clip art! I used cupcake cut outs (I'm crazy about cut outs!)from the Parent Teacher Store, then glued the words onto them. They are better for making puzzles and games, because they are much thicker than regular paper, so they will hold up longer--which is GREAT! I had a sweet parent cut the icing tops off of each cupcake to make the puzzles.

Take home activities are a great way to get parents involved. I should start keeping a notebook of some of your great ideas for when I get back in a classroom.

This is such a cute idea! I can see this working with other concepts such as compound words.

Thanks for sharing!
