Sight Word Sticker Book

Learning sight words is more fun when you can build up a cool sticker collection too! I created this sight word sticker book to use with some of my students this week, and they have been so much more motivated to read and practice sight words each day!  They love earning Hannah Montana, Easter Bunny, and Cars stickers for words read correctly, and I love that I can see them carrying around their books during reading stations showing off the words they can read and their stickers to their friends!  :)  Makes me a happy teacher.   {Click the picture above to check out the sticker books in my TpT shop.}

What is your favorite and/or most creative way to teach sight words?
The first FIVE to comment on this post will get each of the sight word sticker books for free!

  1. This looks great!! I create sight word cards for each student that they keep on a ring. They take these rings home each night. We add words to our ring throughout the year.

    1. Jennifer,
You have the documents made and give them the words each week? How many words do you do a week? Are these Dolch words?
I would love to see how you do it. I am looking for a new way to do sight words.

  3. i have 'words to know' books. there are 6 now. each has two pages of sight words and words that follow along with Saxon phonics rules. students try to read at least one page everytime they read with me. once the book is passed they get a candybar and the whole class claps. :) not as cool as these sticker books.

  10. To help with sight words I draw a picture and come up with a story that goes with each word. So when students can't remember the word, they look at the picture and hopefully they can recall the story and the word. I blogged about it, check it out if you're interested! :)

  11. My kinders love any kind of game that has their sight words in them. Also, they love sight word racers(which I got from someone's blog) and they race the car around to the correct sight word.

That is a great idea to use sticker books! My kids love stickers and will do anything for a sticker!

  17. What a great idea! I have this on the waiting list to purchase from you and had a question- what kind of paper do you use for each book? Do you laminate each page or just have the list copied for each child depending on the level they are working on and when do you test each child-at the end of each week and then give them a new list?
Mnay thanks for this wonderful idea! I use Heidi's Songs and also the ideas from "growing kinders blog" for sight words!
    Thanks! Happy April Fool's DAY!

  20. Thanks for the responses everyone! @ Karen...I would love to hear more about the popcorn bags! That sounds fun! @Maryann...I laminated each page of mine, but I think it would work just as well if you only laminated the front cover. I test to see which list they need first, and we work on filling up one page per week, but if they are able to read each of the words at least 5 times that week correctly, I go ahead and move to the next word list. I hope that helps a little!? :) Happy April Fool's Day to you!!

  25. I use a program called Blast Off words to teach sight words. I'll have to scan it sometimes. In any event the words are leveled from A-Z. Each level has 10 words typed on a rocket ship/ space shuttle. Students practice the words at home, and then my aide quizzes them (or teaches the words as necessary) during my whole group language arts time. The kiddos not only have to read the words, but they have to use them in a sentence. Each time they pass a level, I have a sticker chart that we put a sticker on. We keep the students' word lists in a blue blast off words 3-pronged folder. We just add new levels right on top!

  31. My kiddos love Build a Potato. We use a Mr. Potato Head and a game board I made. Right now we are using the Easter Bunny Potato Head. For each letter(or word) they guess correctly we add a piece to Mr. Potato Head. They go bonkers for this! =)

It is a *freebie* on my blog. I would love for you to come check it out!

  37. I use vista print to create business cards that list 10-15 words that need to be practiced each quarter. It is a simple way to get my kinder families working on sight words. Soon many great ideas here... I can't wait to try a few ideas during my intervention time.

  40. Sorry if this shows up twice! Having a problem with my phone...hi Sarah I love this idea and your blog!! Our district has been preprimer and primer for a couple years now and next year they are adding an additional 20 words. Is there any way you could add those twenty words after I purchase?! Thanks so much!! Eden_capps@scps.k12.fl.us

    1. Eden--absolutely. I do have a few of the Dolch lists beyond primer--after you purchase, you may want to double check to see if your words are already included--but if not, I'd be happy to add those 20 for you. Just email me at scooley2@gmail.com.

  42. This is a GREAT idea. I would like to know what type of program do you use to create all your work. I feel that as a bilingual teacher there are not that many resources and ideas like yours. Therefore, I would like to know what software you use so that I can create my own. Thanks in advance.

  46. I RECENTLY RETIRED BUT I HAD A PHOTO WORD WALL. WHEN I CALLED THE ROLL IN THE MORNING, INSTEAD OF SAYING "HERE" THEY WOULD SAY THEIR SIGHT WORD THAT WAS POSTED ON THE FRONT BOARD ALONG WITH THEIR PICTURE. AFTER THEY SAID THEIR SIGHT WORD OUT LOUD, THE REST OF THE CLASS REPEATED THE WORD. I ADDED AN ADDITIONAL SIGHT WORD (FOR EACH CHILD) EVERY 9 WEEKS. AT THE END OF THE YEAR, EACH CHILD HAD 4 WORDS. DURING WRITER'S WORKSHOP,IF A CHILD WAS HAVING TROUBLE SPELLING A SIGHT WORD, THEY COULD EITHER GO UP TO THE PHOTO/WORDWALL OR ASK THE CHILD HOW TO SPELL THE WORD.SUSAN TWIGGS~TAMPA, FL

  47. I love this idea! This is such a fun and creative way for students to have their own personal "word wall" without taking up extra classroom space! It's so easy and accessible for students to use. I will definitely use this for my future class. :)
