Christmas Around the World

Last week our class "traveled" the world to learn about Christmas traditions in other countries! As we traveled, we took in some of the sights, and we created a scrapbook page to remind us of all that we learned along the way. We began our trip by going to Hawaii! We read this adorable book (that just so happened to be written and illustrated by a first grader--very cool):

We thought it was pretty funny that Santa decided to vacation in Hawaii, and we decided to pretend to be Santa and write postcards back to the North Pole. Here is a fun one:

Feliz Navidad! We also visited Mexico and learned the Legend of the Poinsettia:

Buon Natale! We loved touring Italy! We learned about La Bafana and we took "photos" at some of the famous landmarks!

GIRLFRIEND!!!! LOVING this! SO wish you would've posted this last week!! HA! How did you do this? Did you travel over the week or did you travel for just a day?? We did Christmas around the world in a day and it was NOT enough time! This was the first year our team did it. LOVE the idea, but we need a better way to execute it next year!! And I HAVE GOT TO incorporate this scrapbook. TOO dang cute!! LOVE!

I want to do this too! But with so many activities being squeezed into the last week before vacations...I don't know if we would have enough time...Would one day be enough? Awww...I want my kids to experience this....

We do Christmas around the world too! We have 2 weeks to do it though (45 minutes per activity)!!! We kind of do a scrap book, but it's more like a passport. :) Dj inkers has all of the clip art for Christmas around the world so we made a cute book! We do Italy, Mexico, France, England, Isreal, Holland, and Germany...then we take a stop back at the good old USA! there are activities and/or food that go with each one. It's so fun! :) Love the idea of the scrapbook!!!!

Very cute! My kids loved Christmas Around the World. We did it in two days. We have 8 first grade classes so they rotated to 4 per day. Check out Mrs. Bainbridge. I purchased the powerpoints. http://www.bainbridgeclass.com/files.htm

I'm actually a music teacher for my young friends, and I would LOVE to incorporate this in my classes! Maybe learn a Christmas song and/or dance with each country! How wonderful! Thank you!

We do Christmas Around the World too. We did it for one week but actually you need two or more. We colored and made shoes that looked like the Holland shoes they leave outside their window. I stapled them together gave them pieces of candy for the shoe too. We read about Holland and cut out the flag and glued to our Pass Port. We visited Mexico read how they celebrated and made Poinsetta's and colored our Pinata. We visited China and made
lanterns with construction paper and glittered them. Read about Santa Lucia in Sweden and made Halo of Lights added another flag to our pass port. Read several Gingerbread Stories from Germany. Then we made our own Gingerbread houses using our empty milk cartons, grahm crackets, icing, and lots of candy. We also visited Africa and made a Kwanzaa unity necklace. Instead of the fruit shapes we used fruit loop cereal on yarn for our necklaces. In Isreal read Bubba's Guest and played the Dreidel Game. The trip ended in our
country reading Night Before Christmas making a stocking for Santa and a Christmas Reindeer Card for our parents. I love the idea of eating food at each place. (I downloaded the flags from the internet and shrunk them down to
fit our Pass Ports. The children love it and so do I. The only conflict I had is with the children that can't participate in Christmas. I allowed them to work on the computer during our Social Studies time. Parents were ok with this.
